Other Coins used in Tranquebar

Masila Nather Temple north of Dansborg. 
The temple is dated to the year 1306, but certainly older.

Through the time there are found many of the India copper Kahavanu of the Chola time (985 - 1014) in Tranquebar.

Even the Danes has used the India copper pieces as blanks to some of the 4 kas of Christian VI.

Current in the coastal area

From the 20th October 1781 we do have a description of the most common sorts current in the coastal area of Tranquebar such as star pagodas, Porto Novo Pagodas, Arcot rupees and the coins from the mint of Tranquebar.

Obv.: Formalized full length figure of the deity 
Rev.: Granulated raised surface. 3,37 gram. "Porto Novo" pagodas of this type were struck at Pulicat, Negapatam and Madras.

Madras rupee current in the Danish colony by decree

Madras rupee 1817 - 1835
AH 1172 and with closed form lotus.

By a decree issued on 15th July 1819, the fanams were invalidated and the Madras rupee, current in the British posssessions and throughout the Coromandel coast, was made current in the Danish colony. The Government decided to keep the circulating kas as small change.
